Sophomore Dorm Relationship Guide: How Introverted Students Can Defuse Interpersonal Difficulties

I'm a sophomore at a vocational school, and I've always lived in the school dormitory and got along quite well with my roommates. Recently, however, the school suddenly adjusted the dormitory arrangement, and I stayed in the original dormitory while my two best friends were assigned to other rooms. The remaining roommates are not on good terms with me, so I wanted to swap beds with one of my best friend's dormitory mates. The teacher didn't agree with the dormitory swap and advised us not to do it privately, but we did it anyway, resulting in a discrepancy between the reported list and the teacher's records, because that student didn't want to stay where he was either. We explained to the teacher later, but the situation didn't change much and I was worried about whether I would be penalized. Now I'm in a dorm with my two best friends, but I don't get along with the rest of the people in their original dorm, we don't have much in common, and we rarely talk to each other in class. The other two roommates can talk to each other, but I'm an introvert and I don't talk much in the dorm. I was afraid that they would hang out with their new roommates and leave me out in the cold. I really didn't have much in common with them and didn't know how to get along. There's still a year to go, and I'm rather sensitive and prone to rambling, so I really don't know what to do.

First, think about whether your parents support your idea. If they are supportive, ask your parents to help you communicate with your teachers, perhaps by giving you a small gift or treating you to a meal, to try to get a change of dormitory.

If your parents aren't supportive or can't change the status quo, then visit your best friend's dorm more often, ask them to hang out often, and keep in touch.

At the same time, don't be repulsed by your new housemates, take the initiative and try to reach out to them, and maybe some serendipity will make your relationship better.
